Ingredients

  • 2 cups uncooked macaroni noodles
  • 3 cups grated cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a combination)
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk (2% or whole)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, then add macaroni noodles and cook according to package instructions.
  3. Drain and set aside.
  4. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour and whisk until combined. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  5. Whisk in the milk, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, basil, pepper, and salt. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in 2 cups of the grated cheese until melted. Add the cooked macaroni noodles and stir until combined.
  7. Transfer the macaroni and cheese to a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  8. Sprinkle with the remaining 1 cup of grated cheese and the breadcrumbs.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and the breadcrumbs are golden brown.
  10. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
