Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup shredded cheese

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and water and mix until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough for 5 minutes, then cover with a damp cloth and let rest for 15 minutes.
  3. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to a 1/4” thickness.
  4. Using a biscuit cutter or a knife, cut into circles 2” in diameter.
  5. In the center of each circle, place 1 teaspoon of cheese.
  6. Fold the dough over the cheese and pinch the edges together to seal.
  7. In a large pot of boiling water, add the eggs and vegetable oil.
  8. Carefully drop the Varenyky into the boiling water and cook for 4-5 minutes until they float to the top.
  9. Remove the Varenyky with a slotted spoon and place on a plate lined with a paper towel.
  10. Serve warm with sour cream, if desired.
