Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced

  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce

  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup cornbread mix
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet with the ground beef. Cook until the vegetables are tender.
  4. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix together the cornbread mix, milk, and egg until well combined. Pour the cornbread batter over the ground beef mixture in the baking dish.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the cornbread is golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top. Return to the oven for 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
