Ingredients

  • 1 cup boiled, mashed potatoes
  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 cloves
  • 2 green cardamom pods
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup water

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, onion, garlic, ginger, garam masala, cumin powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, cilantro, and salt. Mix until all the ingredients are well combined.
  2. Using your hands, shape the mixture into small balls. Flatten the balls slightly to form the dumplings.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the flour and oil until it forms a thick paste. Dip each dumpling into the paste and coat it evenly.
  4. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds, bay leaf, cloves, and cardamom pods and sauté for 1 minute.
  5. Add the dumplings and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the sugar and water and bring to a boil.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat and serve hot.
