Ingredients
- 1 cup lentils
- 1 cup white basmati rice
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon coriander
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Hot sauce, for serving (optional)
Directions
- In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
- Add the lentils and stir. Cover the pan and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 15 minutes.
- Add the rice and stir. Cover the pan and cook for an additional 15 minutes, or until the lentils and rice are both cooked through.
- In a separate skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté for 5 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Stir in the cumin, coriander, turmeric, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional minute, stirring constantly.
- Add the onion mixture to the lentils and rice and stir to combine. Serve hot, with hot sauce on the side.
