Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, salt and sugar. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg and stir in the buttermilk. Add to the flour mixture and mix until just combined.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for 1 minute. Pat out into a round and place in the prepared pan.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.
