Ingredients

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth

Directions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Remove the core from the cabbage and place the whole head into the boiling water. Boil for 5 minutes or until the leaves are softened.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, pork, onion, rice, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix until combined.
  3. Remove the softened cabbage leaves from the boiling water and allow to cool. Once cool enough to handle, carefully remove the leaves from the head of cabbage, being careful not to tear them.
  4. Preheat the Instant Pot to sauté mode. Place a few tablespoons of the beef and pork mixture into the center of each cabbage leaf. Roll up the leaf and tuck in the ends. Place the rolls in the Instant Pot.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the tomato sauce and beef broth. Pour over the cabbage rolls in the Instant Pot. Place the lid on the Instant Pot and set to pressure cook on high for 6 minutes.
  6. Allow the pressure to naturally release for 10 minutes before manually releasing the remaining pressure. Serve the golabki with the tomato sauce and beef broth.

Interesting Facts

  • Golabki (pronounced goh-WAHMP-kee) is a traditional Eastern European dish made with ground beef, pork, and rice wrapped in cabbage leaves.
  • The name “golabki” comes from the Polish word for “little pigeons” because the rolled up cabbage leaves resemble the shape of a pigeon.
  • Golabki can also be made with mushrooms or other vegetables in place of the ground beef and pork.
