This Black Forest Chocolate Cake is a delicious combination of moist chocolate cake layers, cherry filling, and whipped cream frosting. A perfect treat for any special occasion or celebration.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 can cherry pie filling
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate shavings for garnish
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
- Once the cakes are completely cool, slice each cake in half horizontally to create 4 layers.
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of cherry pie filling on top.
- Repeat with the remaining cake layers and cherry filling.
- In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Frost the top and sides of the cake with the whipped cream frosting.
- Garnish with chocolate shavings before serving.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
