This Black Forest Chocolate Cake is a delicious combination of moist chocolate cake layers, cherry filling, and whipped cream frosting. A perfect treat for any special occasion or celebration.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate shavings for garnish

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
  6. Once the cakes are completely cool, slice each cake in half horizontally to create 4 layers.
  7. Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of cherry pie filling on top.
  8. Repeat with the remaining cake layers and cherry filling.
  9. In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  10. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the whipped cream frosting.
  11. Garnish with chocolate shavings before serving.
  12. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
