Ingredients
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced

Directions
Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the cumin seeds and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Add the onion and garlic and cook for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add the turmeric, garam masala, coriander, cumin, cardamom, cinnamon, pepper, and cayenne (optional) and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Add the rice and stir to coat with the spices. Add the broth and bring to a boil.
Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and simmer for 15 minutes.
Add the peas, cover, and simmer for 5 more minutes, or until the liquid has been absorbed and the rice is tender.
Stir in the cilantro just before serving.
