Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2 eggs

  • 1/2 cup chopped almonds
  • 1/2 cup candied fruit
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Make a well in the center and add yeast mixture, warm milk, melted butter, and eggs. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  4. Punch down dough and knead in raisins, almonds, and candied fruit. Shape dough into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake bread for 30-40 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
