Ingredients
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour one 9 inch round cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk; beat just until incorporated. Pour batter into prepared pan.
- Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow cake to cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.
