Ingredients

  • 1 cup rye flour
  • 1 cup warm water

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the rye flour and warm water until combined.
  2. Cover the bowl with a cloth and let it sit in a warm place for 24 hours.
  3. After 24 hours, uncover the bowl and add 1/2 cup of flour and 1/2 cup of warm water. Mix until combined.
  4. Cover the bowl again and let it sit for another 24 hours.
  5. Repeat step 3 until the starter becomes thick and bubbly.
  6. Once the starter is ready, store it in a sealed container in the fridge. It will keep for up to a week.
