Ingredients

  • 1 cup Herman Starter
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 4-5 cups all-purpose flour

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the Herman Starter, yeast, sugar, oil, salt, and warm water. Stir until combined.
  2. Add the flour, 1 cup at a time, stirring until a soft dough forms. (You may need to add more or less flour depending on the humidity and temperature of your kitchen.)
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until it is smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide into 12 equal pieces.
  6. Roll each piece of dough into a ball and place on a greased baking sheet. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.
