1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup French-fried onions
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the green beans and cook for 2 minutes. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
Gradually whisk in the milk and cook, stirring frequently, until the sauce is thick and bubbly, about 5 minutes.
Stir in the salt, pepper, and cheese. Add the green beans and stir to combine.
Pour the mixture into a 9x13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle with the French-fried onions.
Bake for 25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown.
Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
