Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup French-fried onions
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the green beans and cook for 2 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and cook, stirring frequently, until the sauce is thick and bubbly, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the salt, pepper, and cheese. Add the green beans and stir to combine.
- Pour the mixture into a 9x13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle with the French-fried onions.
- Bake for 25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown.
- Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
