Ingredients
1 lb lean ground beef
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup whole milk
1/2 cup grated onion
2 eggs
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
2 cups beef broth
Directions
In a large bowl, mix together the beef, bread crumbs, milk, onion, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper until just combined.
Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and set aside.
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the meatballs and brown on all sides, about 8 minutes.
Sprinkle the flour over the meatballs and cook for 1 minute.
Add the beef broth and stir to combine. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.
Serve over mashed potatoes or egg noodles, with a side of lingonberries.
Interesting Facts
Swedish meatballs are a staple in Swedish cuisine and have been around since the 18th century.
The original recipe included allspice, nutmeg, and white wine.
The Swedish version of the meatball is much smaller than the Italian version.
