Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup diced bell pepper
  • 1/2 cup diced jalapeno
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • Oil for frying

Directions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the onion, bell pepper, jalapeno, garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, oregano, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the chicken broth and stir to combine. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove the beef mixture from the heat and stir in the cilantro.
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add the warm water and mix until a dough forms.
  6. Divide the dough into 8 equal balls and flatten them into discs. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add enough oil to cover the bottom of the skillet. Fry the discs until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side.
  7. To assemble the tacos, fill each fry-bread with the beef mixture and top with your favorite toppings.
