Ingredients
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and beginning to brown, about 10 minutes.
Add the sugar, salt, and pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is nicely caramelized, about 8 minutes.
Add the balsamic vinegar and cook for 1 minute.

To assemble, place the fig halves on a serving platter, top with the caramelized onions, and crumble the goat cheese over the top.
Serve at room temperature.
