Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Stir in vanilla extract. Combine flour, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, and salt; stir into the creamed mixture. Fold in figs.
Spread batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let cake cool for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
