Ingredients

  • 3 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 4 tablespoons oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 6-7 cups whole wheat flour

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Stir until the yeast has dissolved.
  2. Add the honey, oil, salt, and 5 cups of the flour. Stir until the ingredients are combined.
  3. Add the remaining flour 1 cup at a time, stirring until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.
  4. Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise until it is doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal pieces. Shape each piece into a loaf and place them on a greased baking sheet.
  6. Cover the loaves and let them rise until they are doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake the loaves for 40-45 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  8. Remove the loaves from the oven and let cool before slicing.
