Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 2 cups warm water

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 cups rye flour

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the yeast, water, and sugar. Let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the oil, salt, and rye flour. Add the yeast mixture and stir until well combined.
  3. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  4. Punch down the dough and form into a loaf. Place on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
