Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup Easter-themed candies

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in three additions, alternating with the buttermilk, stirring until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Once cool, frost the cake with your favorite buttercream frosting and decorate with Easter-themed candies.
