1/2 cup (125 grams) butter, plus extra for greasing the pan
1 cup (200 grams) sugar
4 eggs
4 cups (500 grams) all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
2 cups (500 ml) warm milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon salt
2 pounds (900 grams) ripe plums, pitted and halved
1/2 cup (100 grams) sugar
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch (23 cm) springform cake pan.
In a bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, and mix until combined.
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, yeast, warm milk, vanilla extract and salt. Slowly add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix until smooth.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it out evenly. Arrange the plum halves in a layer on top of the batter.
Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup (100 grams) of sugar over the top of the plums. Bake for 50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool before slicing and serving.
