This Sweet Potato and Venison Shepherd's Pie is a comforting and nourishing dish that combines the rich flavors of venison with the sweetness of sweet potatoes. Perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground venison
  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground venison over medium heat until cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the onion and garlic and sauté until fragrant. Add the peas and carrots, broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, boil the sweet potatoes in a pot of water until tender. Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper.
  5. In a baking dish, layer the cooked venison mixture on the bottom. Top with the mashed sweet potatoes and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
