Ingredients
- 1 loaf of crusty bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 large onion, diced
- 3 stalks of celery, diced
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 cup of mushrooms, sliced
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter
- 2 cups of chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 tablespoon of fresh sage, chopped
- 1 tablespoon of fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 teaspoon of dried rosemary
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
Directions
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the onion, celery, garlic, and mushrooms to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the bread cubes, cooked vegetables, sage, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the broth and eggs. Pour the mixture over the bread mixture and stir until everything is well combined and the bread cubes are evenly coated.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased slow cooker. Cover and cook on low heat for 4-6 hours, or until the stuffing is cooked through and has a slightly crisp top.
- Once the stuffing is cooked, remove the lid of the slow cooker and let it sit for 10 minutes to cool slightly before serving.
- Garnish with additional fresh herbs, if desired, and serve hot.
