Prawn Biryani is a popular South Asian dish where succulent prawns are cooked with fragrant rice, spices, and herbs. This dish is a delightful combination of seafood and aromatic flavors that will tantalize your taste buds.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb prawns, cleaned and deveined
  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 4-5 green chilies, slit
  • 1/4 cup chopped mint leaves
  • 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 3 cups water

Directions

  1. Heat ghee and oil in a large pot. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Saute for a minute.
  4. Add tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until tomatoes are soft.
  5. Add cleaned prawns and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  6. Add yogurt, mint leaves, and coriander leaves. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  7. Wash and soak basmati rice for 30 minutes. Drain the water.
  8. Add soaked rice to the pot with prawn mixture. Mix well.
  9. Add water and garam masala. Bring to a boil.
  10. Cover the pot with a lid and cook on low heat for 20 minutes or until the rice is cooked.
  11. Fluff the rice gently with a fork and serve hot.
