Ingredients

  • 1 pound mixed seafood (shrimp, crab, or oysters)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 refrigerated pie crust
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • Pickles, for serving
  • Lettuce, for serving

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
  2. Dip the seafood into the buttermilk, then coat in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to adhere. Repeat with all the seafood.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Fry the seafood in batches until golden brown and crispy, approximately 3-4 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, dried oregano, dried basil, celery salt, sugar, smoked paprika, white pepper, hot pepper sauce, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt to make the remoulade sauce.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Place the refrigerated pie crust in a pie dish and press into the bottom and sides. Trim any excess dough.
  8. Spread a layer of remoulade sauce on the bottom of the pie crust.
  9. Layer the fried seafood over the sauce.
  10. Top with sliced tomatoes.
  11. Cover with another layer of remoulade sauce.
  12. Place another pie crust on top and seal the edges. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  13. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
  14. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
