Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup poppy seeds
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup dried minced onion
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and honey, mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 425°F. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add honey.
  5. Divide dough into 8 equal pieces, shape into balls, and poke a hole in the center. Allow to rise for 10 minutes.
  6. Boil bagels for 1 minute on each side, then remove and place on a baking sheet.
  7. Brush bagels with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, garlic, onion, and sea salt.
