- 1 package active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/3 cup butter, melted
- 1 egg

- 3 1/2 - 4 cups all-purpose flour

- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 tbsp butter

- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, mix together sugar, milk, melted butter, egg, and salt. Stir in yeast mixture.
- Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms. Knead dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Roll out dough on a floured surface and cut into long oval shapes. Let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer to 375°F. Fry long johns in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
