These American-style stuffed cabbage rolls are a hearty and comforting dish, perfect for a cozy family dinner. The tender cabbage leaves are filled with a flavorful mixture of ground beef, rice, and spices, then simmered in a tangy tomato sauce until tender and delicious.
Ingredients
- 1 head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 can tomato sauce
- 1 can diced tomatoes
Directions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the head of cabbage and place the whole head in the boiling water. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the outer leaves start to soften. Remove from water and allow to cool.
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until beef is browned. Add in the cooked rice, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Carefully peel off the softened cabbage leaves and place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of each leaf. Roll up the cabbage leaf, tucking in the sides as you go. Place seam side down in a large baking dish.
- In a bowl, mix together the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Pour over the cabbage rolls in the baking dish.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cabbage rolls are tender.
