These American-style stuffed cabbage rolls are a hearty and comforting dish, perfect for a cozy family dinner. The tender cabbage leaves are filled with a flavorful mixture of ground beef, rice, and spices, then simmered in a tangy tomato sauce until tender and delicious.

Ingredients

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1 can diced tomatoes

Directions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the head of cabbage and place the whole head in the boiling water. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the outer leaves start to soften. Remove from water and allow to cool.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until beef is browned. Add in the cooked rice, paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  3. Carefully peel off the softened cabbage leaves and place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of each leaf. Roll up the cabbage leaf, tucking in the sides as you go. Place seam side down in a large baking dish.
  4. In a bowl, mix together the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Pour over the cabbage rolls in the baking dish.
  5. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cabbage rolls are tender.
  6. Serve hot and enjoy!
