Ingredients

  • 1 ham bone
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 carrots, diced
  • 3 celery stalks, diced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup corn kernels
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Directions

  1. In a large pot, sauté the onion, garlic, carrots, and celery in butter until softened.
  2. Add the ham bone, chicken broth, milk, potatoes, and corn to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
  3. Remove the ham bone from the pot and shred any meat from it. Discard the bone.
  4. In a small bowl, mix flour with a bit of water to make a slurry. Stir the slurry into the chowder to thicken.
  5. Return the shredded ham to the pot and season with salt and pepper.
