Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup mixed dried fruits (raisins, currants, etc.)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for cross icing)
  • 2 tbsp water (for cross icing)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for cross icing)
  • 1 tbsp milk (for cross icing)

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Add dried fruits, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Knead until fruits are evenly distributed.
  5. Cover and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  6. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and shape into balls. Place in a greased baking pan.
  7. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. In a small bowl, mix flour and water to form a paste for the cross icing. Pipe crosses onto the buns.
