Ingredients

  • 4 ripe guavas, peeled and seeded
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

  1. In a saucepan, combine the peeled and seeded guavas, onion, garlic, and jalapeno pepper.
  2. Cook over medium heat until the guavas are soft and the onions are translucent, about 10 minutes.
  3. Using a blender or immersion blender, puree the guava mixture until smooth.
  4. Return the pureed mixture to the saucepan and add the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, allspice, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for an additional 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Remove the sauce from the heat and let it cool.
  7. Once cooled, transfer the sauce to a jar or bottle and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld together.
  8. Serve as a marinade, basting sauce, or dipping sauce for grilled meats.
