Tofu piccata is a tasty and satisfying vegetarian version of the traditional chicken piccata. With a tangy lemon and caper sauce coating crispy tofu, this dish is sure to impress even the pickiest eaters. Serve it over pasta or with a side of vegetables for a complete meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu, pressed and cut into slices
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons capers
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup white wine
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Directions

  1. Dredge the tofu slices in flour, shaking off any excess.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add tofu slices and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  4. Remove tofu from skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  6. Add vegetable broth, lemon juice, capers, and white wine to the skillet.
  7. Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Return the tofu slices to the skillet and coat them with the sauce.
  10. Serve the tofu piccata topped with fresh parsley.
