- 1/2 cup ice-cold water
- 6 medium-sized apples (such as Granny Smith)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup water
Directions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture.
- Using a pastry cutter or your hands, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Slowly add the ice-cold water to the mixture, one tablespoon at a time, stirring until the dough comes together.
- Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel and core the apples, leaving them whole.
- In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle.
- Cut the rectangle into 6 equal squares.
- Place an apple in the center of each square and sprinkle each apple with the sugar mixture.
- Fold the corners of the dough up and over each apple, pressing the edges to seal.
- Transfer the dumplings to a baking dish, seam side down.
- In a saucepan, combine the melted butter and water.
- Bring the mixture to a boil and pour it over the dumplings.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
