Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, room temperature
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4 tablespoons heavy cream
- Food coloring, optional
Directions
- In the bowl of a stand mixer (or using a hand mixer), cream the butter until light and fluffy.
- Add the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, until all is incorporated. Scrape down the sides of the bowl if necessary.
- Add the vanilla extract and heavy cream and mix until combined.
- For colored frosting, add a few drops of food coloring at this time and mix until desired color is reached.
- Transfer the frosting to a pastry bag or a large zip-top bag with the corner snipped off.
- Pipe the frosting onto your cakes or cookies.
