Ingredients
- 8 ounces of high-quality dark or semi-sweet chocolate
- 1/2 cup of heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup of finely chopped nuts (such as almonds, pecans, or walnuts)
- Cocoa powder or powdered sugar for coating
Directions
- Chop the chocolate into small pieces and place it in a heatproof bowl.
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream and butter over medium heat until it begins to simmer.
- Pour the hot cream mixture over the chopped chocolate and let it sit for a minute to soften the chocolate.
- Stir the chocolate and cream mixture until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
- Add the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg to the chocolate mixture. Stir well to incorporate the flavors.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours or until it is firm enough to handle.
- Once the mixture has chilled and is firm, use a spoon or a melon baller to scoop out portions of the truffle mixture.
- Roll each portion into a small ball and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Repeat the process until all the truffle mixture has been used. Before rolling the truffles, you can also place a small piece of your favorite flavored filling, such as a toasted nut or a mini marshmallow, in the center of each truffle, if desired.
- Place the baking sheet with the truffles back in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes to firm up again.
- In the meantime, prepare a shallow bowl or plate with cocoa powder or powdered sugar for coating the truffles.
- Remove the truffles from the refrigerator and roll each one in the cocoa powder or powdered sugar until evenly coated.
- Place the coated truffles back on the baking sheet and refrigerate for another 30 minutes to set the coating.
- Once the truffles are firm, they are ready to be served or stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to enjoy.
