Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups arepa flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 cup cream cheese
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine arepa flour and salt. Slowly add warm water and stir until the dough forms.
  2. Divide the dough into 8 equal parts and roll each part into a ball.
  3. Flatten each ball into a disc about 1/4-inch thick.
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Place the discs onto the skillet and cook for about 4 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
  5. In a small bowl, combine cream cheese, sugar and butter. Spread the mixture onto each cooked arepa.
  6. Serve warm.
