Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, beat together the butter and icing sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until the dough comes together.
Roll the dough into 1-inch (2.5cm) balls and place on the prepared baking sheets. Flatten the balls slightly with a fork.
Bake for 10-12 minutes until firm and slightly darker around the edges. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
