This classic Salisbury steaks recipe is a comforting and delicious dish that is perfect for a weeknight dinner. Made with ground beef and flavorful seasonings, these tender patties are seared to perfection and then smothered in a rich mushroom gravy. Serve them with mashed potatoes and green beans for a complete meal that will satisfy your whole family.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth

Directions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Divide the mixture into four portions and shape each portion into an oval-shaped patty, about 1/2-inch thick.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they are tender and golden brown, about 5 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and stir well to coat. Cook for an additional minute to cook out the raw flour taste.
  6. Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring constantly. Continue to cook until the gravy has thickened, about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Return the cooked patties to the skillet and spoon the mushroom gravy over them. Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  8. Serve the Salisbury steaks hot with mashed potatoes and steamed green beans. Enjoy!
