Learn how to make a traditional Mexican dessert with this easy and delicious Flan Napolitano recipe. It is a smooth and creamy caramel custard that will melt in your mouth. This recipe uses simple ingredients and requires minimal effort. The result is a rich and indulgent dessert that is sure to impress your family and friends. Perfect for any special occasion or simply as a sweet treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Cook over medium heat until the sugar melts and turns golden brown, swirling the pan occasionally to ensure even cooking. This will take about 10 minutes. Once the caramel is ready, immediately pour it into a 9-inch round baking dish, swirling it around to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Pour the milk and egg mixture over the hardened caramel in the baking dish. Smooth the surface with a spatula if needed.
  5. Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan and fill it with boiling water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the dish. This water bath will help the flan cook evenly.
  6. Carefully transfer the pans to the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the center of the flan is set but still slightly jiggly.
  7. Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool to room temperature.
  8. Once cooled, cover the flan with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow it to fully set.
  9. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the baking dish to loosen the flan. Place a serving plate on top of the dish and flip it over, allowing the flan to release onto the plate. The caramel sauce will flow over the top of the flan, creating a beautiful presentation.
  10. Slice and serve the flan chilled, garnished with fresh berries or mint leaves if desired.
