Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup soft butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup jam or preserves
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Mix in the vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt. Stir into the creamed mixture until combined.
  4. Form the dough into small balls and place onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Using your thumb, make an indentation in the center of each cookie.
  5. Fill each indentation with jam or preserves and top with chopped nuts.
  6. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until cookies are set.
  7. Allow cookies to cool on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
