Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg, beaten
Directions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, melted butter, and sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Sprinkle yeast over the mixture and let it sit for 10 minutes, or until foamy.
- Add 2 cups of flour and salt to the bowl. Stir until well combined.
- Gradually add the remaining 1 cup of flour, ¼ cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. You may not need to use the entire cup of flour.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for 45-60 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a hot dog bun shape, approximately 6 inches long.
- Place the shaped buns on a greased baking sheet, leaving some space between them. Cover the baking sheet with the kitchen towel and let the buns rise for an additional 15-20 minutes.
- Brush the tops of the buns with the beaten egg, and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove the buns from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
