Ingredients
- 8 lasagna noodles
- 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or Italian sausage over medium heat until browned. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, and cook until the onion is translucent.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, until the flavors meld together.
- In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, and egg. Mix well.
- Spread a spoonful of the meat sauce onto the bottom of a baking dish.
- Lay one lasagna noodle on a clean surface and spread a thin layer of the ricotta cheese mixture along the length of the noodle. Roll the noodle up tightly and place it seam-side down in the baking dish.
- Repeat with the remaining noodles and cheese mixture.
- Pour the remaining meat sauce over the lasagna roll ups, making sure they are well covered. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve hot.
