2 cups all-purpose flour

Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter and set aside.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cardamom, and salt.
In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla.
Gradually add flour mixture to butter mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture.
Spread batter into prepared pan and sprinkle with coarse sugar. Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Let cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
