Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup bourbon whiskey
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt, to taste

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, bourbon, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  2. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Taste and season with salt, if desired.
  5. Remove from the heat and let cool completely before using.
