Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup butter, chilled and cut into pieces
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Extra flour for dusting

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until just combined.
  4. Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently until it forms a smooth ball.
  5. Roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness and cut out circles with a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass.
  6. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
