Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup white sugar, for rolling

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. Combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg; stir into the creamed mixture.
  5. Roll the dough into walnut sized balls and roll the balls in remaining sugar. Place the cookies 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
