Ingredients

  • 1 pound of bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 cans (15 ounces each) of navy beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup of ketchup
  • 1/4 cup of molasses
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Directions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove from the skillet and let it cool. Once cooled, crumble the bacon into small pieces.
  2. In the same skillet, sauté the diced onion until translucent and lightly browned.
  3. In a slow cooker, combine the cooked bacon, sautéed onion, navy beans, ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat for 4 hours, or until the beans are tender and the flavors are well combined. Stir occasionally.
  5. Once cooked, taste and adjust the seasonings if needed. If the beans are too thick, you can add a little water or broth to achieve the desired consistency.
  6. Serve the bacon baked beans hot as a side dish or as a main course with cornbread or crusty bread. Enjoy!
