Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 large potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Directions

  1. Boil the diced potatoes until tender. Drain and mash the potatoes until smooth.
  2. In a large pan, heat some oil and sauté the chopped onions and minced garlic until soft and fragrant.
  3. Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until browned. Break up the meat into small pieces while cooking.
  4. Add the mashed potatoes, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and paprika to the pan. Mix well until all the ingredients are combined.
  5. Remove the mixture from the heat and let it cool.
  6. Once the mixture has cooled, shape it into small croquettes, approximately 2 inches long and 1 inch thick.
  7. In three separate bowls, place the all-purpose flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs.
  8. Dip each croquette in the flour, then the beaten eggs, and finally coat it evenly with breadcrumbs.
  9. Heat vegetable oil in a deep-fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Carefully drop the coated croquettes into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  11. Remove the croquettes from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  12. Serve the Japanese beef croquettes hot and enjoy!
