Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole-wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons flaxseed meal
  • 2 tablespoons quick-cooking oats
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, whole-wheat flour, flaxseed meal, oats, salt, and sugar. Add the yeast and mix to combine.
  2. Add the warm water and vegetable oil, and stir until a dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead for 10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough, and shape it into a loaf. Place the loaf in a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  6. Cover the pan with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  7. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool before slicing.
